On August 13, another case of animal cruelty occurred at the Tashkent Zoo. One of the visitors began throwing stones at Alex the lion and the porcupines. Since the porcupine enclosure is open, the stones actually hit the animals.
The most disturbing part is that the adult’s example was immediately copied by his child, who also began throwing stones at the animals. Moreover, after the stones hit the animals, the visitor applauded himself, as if what was happening were some kind of entertainment.
The porcupines are currently being examined. The person is also being identified using the zoo’s CCTV footage.
We are grateful to all visitors who report incidents like this to us. If you witness cruel or inappropriate behavior toward animals, please do not walk by. Immediately report it to zoo staff by phone:

Do not wait for someone else to speak up or report the incident. One phone call can help stop someone in time and prevent harm to the animals.
We are writing about this again because such incidents continue to happen. And we will keep writing about them.
Our mission is to protect animals. Every day. No matter how often we have to remind adults of the most basic rules of behavior.
